Kennedy Park is a 29 acre urban park located along Biscayne Bay in Coconut Grove.
Kennedy Park adopted its name after one of the City of Miami’s mayor David Thomas Kennedy who served from 1970 to 1973.
Kennedy Park is one of Coconut Grove Parks that is a hotspot for families, pet owners and athletes. This park offers plenty of pathways for running, biking and walking, a children’s playground, dog parks, exercise equipment and plenty of open space for relaxing, fun and games.
The children’s playground is fenced off for their safety. It includes three separate play areas, each made for children 5 years old and up, 2 to 5 years old and 2 years old and under. There are also benches for the parents and restrooms located next to the playground.
Kennedy Park is a pet-friendly park. You can walk your dog along the paths or there are two fenced in leash free zones for your dog to run free and socialize with other companions. One area is for big dogs while the other area is for the little ones.
Kennedy Park is also geared for exercisers’ which is probably why it attracts so many people. Starting with its walk paths weaving throughout the park, the paths are constructed of a cushy rubber mulch to protect runner’s knees. Also included are various exercising equipment scattered throughout the park and an outdoor gym area. The park is vast so there is plenty of grassy fields for tai chi, yoga or whatever training activities desired.
Other amenities include a sandy beach volleyball area and wooden docks open to the public to hangout on, relax and enjoy the view and breeze of the bay.
Also located in the Kennedy Parks parking lot on Bayshore Drive is A.C’s food truck which has been refreshing Grovites for over 30 years. You can try their famous frozen lemonade icee. They also serve hot dogs, water, chips, sodas as well as icees in various flavors.
